There is one thing about sports that is universal. When a season is underway, every team has a chance. Every team starts over. It’s another year to prove that you might be the best team in the league. The 2013-2014 NBA season officially starts tonight. According to NBA experts, this might be the best NBA season in a very long time. There were so many headline stories coming into the season and now all of our questions will be answered. But do you want me to repeat them? I can go on about the big stories and give you my predictions on who will win the East, who will win the West, and who will win the Championship. That’s not happening.
Yes, I am excited about this upcoming NBA season but it would be boring talking about the same stuff over and over. So I’m going to give you ten inquiries about the 2013-2014 NBA that might make you scratch your head, make you laugh, or even make you think.
Who is the better New York team?
Everyone knows about the New York Knicks, but did you know that there is another New York team? Yes, the Brooklyn Nets. They moved to Brooklyn from New Jersey last year and they weren’t a disappointment. I take that back. They did lose to a Derrick Rose-less Bulls in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Anyway, with the acquisitions of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry, the Nets are considered a big contender in the East, most likely finishing in the Top 4. Remember, Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, and Joe Johnson make their starting five almost dangerous. As for the Knicks, I’m not sure if they got better or worse. They do have Carmelo Anthony, but who else is going to step up? Amar’e Stoudemire? Tyson Chandler? Raymond Felton? They did get Andrea Bargnani and Metta World Peace but will that be enough? The Knicks will be good but they have to deal with the Heat, the Pacers, the Bulls, and the Nets. Oh, did I mention that Jason Kidd (my favorite player) is the coach for the Nets?
How many times will Derrick Rose be mentioned in every SportsCenter story?
Finally, Derrick Rose will be back in the NBA. If you didn’t know, Rose didn’t play all of last season because of a torn ACL. As glad as I am to see him back, it was such a burden hearing about him all the time. I’m no doctor but recovering from a torn ACL injury takes time. Was it necessary for SportsCenter to talk about his injury and recovery status EVERY DAY? He was going to come back eventually. It wasn’t like his career was over. Now that he’s back, all sports anchors can shut up about Rose coming back. He’s now back. Please move on.
Why are the LA Clippers such big babies?
The Los Angeles Clippers are considered the best pick to win the loaded Western Conference. The team is still kind of the same with a few moves here and there. Doc Rivers is now the coach and with a coach like that with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, of course they can win a title. They are STILL considered second best in Los Angeles. They share a stadium with the Lakers. Doc Rivers proposed an idea in which the Lakers’ championship banners will be covered by the Clippers’ roster when they will host games. It’s not your fault that the Clippers were considered one of the worst franchises in the NBA. Here’s an idea: win 16 NBA Championships. Here’s another idea: build another arena.
Will Linsanity be revived again?
The Houston Rockets are another big contender in the West, mainly because Dwight Howard is there. This is a pretty good team with James Harden as the number one scoring option and role players such as Omer Asik and Chandler Parsons. But what about the point guard? You mean Jeremy Lin? You mean the point guard that kind of resurrected the Knicks in 2012? You mean the same Jeremy Lin that started “Linsanity”? Yeah I don’t think that will happen. I don’t think that Jeremy Lin will have that kind of fame ever again. Will he be an impact player for the Rockets this season. Ehh…he’ll be decent enough.
Is Greg Oden still an NBA player?
After 3+ years of not playing in a NBA game, Greg Oden will actually play. The funny thing is that he might actually be vital for an NBA team (the Heat to be exact). Many people forget that he was the #1 draft pick in 2007. But he’s looks like a old man with old man knees. Now he’s the back-up center for the Heat. I almost forgot he was still in the NBA but I guess he’s back. Let’s see how long until his knees break again.
Are they really called the New Orleans Pelicans?
There is nothing wrong with changing your franchise’s name. But you couldn’t pick any other animal? You had to pick a pelican as your franchise name? The Pelicans?
Is Kyrie Irving lying to all Cleveland fans?
Kyrie Irving is considered one of the top three point guards in this league. He promised Cleveland fans that he will stay in Cleveland and not pull a “LeBron”. It is the Cleveland Cavaliers. A professional team from Cleveland hasn’t won a national championship since the 1950s. As talented as Irving is, you know he isn’t going to stay there. Give him about 3-4 years.
How many games will the Bobcats lose in a row?
The Charlotte Bobcats are the worst team in the NBA. They did win 21 games last season (14 more than in 2012) but lost 18 games in a row. It’s a possible chance they might not be the worst team this year but still will be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. I’ll say they will lose 15 games in a row.
How loaded is the Western Conference?
Okay, this question is probably a common question for most NBA analysts. It’s between the Clippers, Spurs, and Thunder for the West and that’s just from the top of my head. It looks like a lot of teams have improved. They have improved to the point where an 8th seed could beat up the 1 seed. There are the Warriors, Rockets, Grizzlies, Mavericks, Nuggets, Trailblazers, and Jazz. Remember that there are eight seeds. Also, all these teams are going to fight for their seeding in the playoffs. I honestly don’t know who will win the West but it’ll be interesting watching the playoffs, depending on who’s in and where everyone is seeded.
How many people will Craig Sager piss off?
Craig Sager is sideline reporter for TNT whenever NBA games are broadcasted on TNT. He is a pretty good reporter but it’s not because of his reporting. He’s more known for his “questionable” suits. Some players have actually ridiculed him for his fashion sense. Also, some players and coaches have gotten to him for interviewing them at the wrong time and the type of questions he asks. I’m pretty sure he’s a good guy overall but it’s interesting watching him do his job.
Hopefully this will give you a good laugh for the start of the NBA season, which actually starts tonight (as I’m writing this).
Happy NBA 2013-2014 season. Basketball is officially back.
